As new technology continues to be implemented in everyday practice, IAC is aware that the current Standards may not be inclusive of these new technologies. A new policy enables facilities utilizing innovative technologies or other novel approaches to apply for accreditation while the new technology being utilized is evaluated.
New or Emerging Technologies, Protocols and Other Novel Imaging or Interventional Approaches
New or emerging technologies, protocols and other novel imaging or interventional approaches not included in guidelines published by professional societies must have supporting documentation that demonstrates adherence to manufacturer’s training, safety specifications and quality control specifications as applicable.
Facilities are encouraged to contact the IAC for guidance related to the utilization of new technology not currently addressed in the IAC Standards.
Submissions will undergo committee review to include the rationale for the technology use; supporting documentation provided; safety of the technology; and the impact on the quality of the images, interpretation accuracy and outcomes in interventional programs.
This new process provides IAC an opportunity to understand how facilities are utilizing emerging/novel technologies in their daily operations, for potential future Standards revisions that will improve the process for all applicant facilities.
