CLOSED – Proposed Revisions to the IAC Pediatric and Congenital Echocardiography Standards Open for Public Comment

Comments Accepted Through April 15, 2023

In keeping with the IAC’s continued commitment to give our applicant facilities a voice in the accreditation process, we are pleased to announce the opportunity to comment on proposed revisions to the IAC Standards and Guidelines for Pediatric and Congenital Echocardiography Accreditation. The 60-day public comment period will be available February 15-April 15, 2023.

The Standards are reviewed periodically by the IAC Echocardiography Board of Directors and revised as needed. As a component to the accreditation process, proposed Standards that have been approved by the Board of Directors are then posted to the IAC website for a public comment period. These proposed Standards include changes to the current Standards and/or the addition of new Standards.

Important Note Regarding Change to Standards Name to IAC Standards and Guidelines for Pediatric and Congenital Echocardiography Accreditation

Facilities accredited in pediatric echocardiography may provide services to patients of all ages with congenital heart disease. The name of the Standards has been changed, and language has been added throughout, to acknowledge the facilities obtaining this type of accreditation have met the Standards to perform and interpret pediatric and congenital echocardiograms, regardless of the patient’s age. Pediatric facilities providing echocardiography services to adults with congenital heart disease are not expected to pursue accreditation in adult echocardiography and do not need to apply for the adult congenital transthoracic echocardiography add-on testing area accreditation.
