IAC MOC Activity

IAC Launches Quality Improvement MOC Activity for Interpreting Physicians of Accredited Facilities

Participants are eligible to receive 25 ABP and/or 20 ABIM Practice Assessment MOC Points. Completion of this activity will also satisfy the ABR ‘Part IV: Participatory Quality Improvement (PQI)’ Activity requirement for a three-year period and/or the ABNM MOC Part 4 QI Activities annual requirement.

The Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC) is pleased to make available the “IAC QI Maintenance of Certification (MOC) Activity,” a Quality Improvement (QI) self-assessment activity to provide interpreting physicians with an online tool to assess quality metrics as required by the IAC Standards and Guidelines for Accreditation.

Medical Directors or medical staff members within IAC-accredited facilities are eligible to participate. The Medical Director or medical staff member must be listed on the Manage Staff tab of the Online Accreditation account in order to participate in the MOC Activity.

Successful completion of this activity enables the participant to earn 20 Practice Assessment points and patient safety credit in the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) MOC program, 25 credits from the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP), and/or satisfy the ‘Part IV: Participatory Quality Improvement (PQI)’ Activity requirement from the American Board of Radiology (ABR) for a three-year period. Additionally, participation in applying for or maintaining IAC accreditation will satisfy the American Board of Nuclear Medicine (ABNM) MOC Part 4 Quality Improvement Activities annual requirement.

The offering of the IAC QI MOC Activity coincides with the organization’s mission of Improving health care through accreditation®.

Steps of the QI MOC Activity

  1. Each participant is required to evaluate 10 consecutive case studies and the corresponding reports for each quarter, for a total of four quarters. The evaluations are completed using a MOC-specific version of the IAC QI Self-Assessment Tool in the Online Accreditation account.
  2. The results of the evaluation are documented through an automated analysis process and provided to the participant electronically. The tool also tracks and compares the data quarterly, to document whether the participant(s) has shown improvement for each of the quality metrics evaluated.
  3. The participant(s) will review the quarterly analysis and summarize the findings for discussion at their facility’s bi-annual QI meetings.

Questions regarding the MOC activity can be submitted to the IAC via e-mail.

The ABIM, ABP and ABR Maintenance of Certification (MOC) programs assess core competencies and principles as established by the National Strategy for Quality Improvement in Health Care – National Quality Strategy (NQS) and the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). This enables the ABIM, ABP and ABR to assure the public, licensing boards, payers and regulatory agencies that certified adult and pediatric subspecialists (diplomates) have the knowledge and skills to deliver quality care.
