IAC Vascular Testing announces the release of updated recommendations for Carotid Stenosis Interpretation Criteria.
These recommendations seek to improve quality of care for patients undergoing carotid duplex examinations through standardization of criteria across accredited testing facilities and use of rigorously validated criteria for assessment of severity of internal carotid artery stenosis, including velocity thresholds for > 50% ICA stenosis that more accurately reflect severity of disease.
Broad acceptance of these recommendations will enhance the accuracy of the detection of clinically-relevant ICA stenosis and further reduce the variability in grading of ICA stenosis on duplex studies by IAC-accredited vascular labs.
IAC Vascular Testing strongly recommends the use of these modified criteria for carotid interpretation at this time.
